LEGISLATIVE

 Legislative Priorities

Our Washington, D.C., office is strategically positioned to keep a vigilant eye on all legislation impacting veterans. We promptly notify VFW members about significant bills and actively advocate with Congress and the administration on veterans' issues. The National Legislative Service is responsible for setting the VFW's legislative priorities and representing veterans' interests. Through testifying at congressional hearings and engaging with lawmakers, the VFW has been pivotal in nearly every piece of veterans' legislation since the early 20th century. Our efforts on Capitol Hill are always aligned with the VFW’s Priority Goals and the well-being of veterans. With the backing of over 1.4 million VFW and Auxiliary members, our influence on Capitol Hill is both significant and impactful.

Among our recent legislative successes, we secured the expansion of college education benefits through the Forever GI Bill and ensured that service members and veterans receive comprehensive care whenever and wherever needed with the passage of the VA MISSION Act.
